GAW
The Coalition for Educational Development (CED) is the national partner for the organization of the Global Action Week in Sri Lanka. Annually a number of programmes are planned and implemented under a selected theme during this week. The previous GAWs have addressed the following themes;
2003 : "Girls’ Education: The Biggest Issue"
2004 : "Back to School"
2005 : "Education to End Poverty"
2006 : "Every Child Needs a Teacher"
2007 : "Education as a Human Right"
2008 : "End Exclusion from School Education Immediately"
In 2009 the GAW focuses on "Lifelong Learning Youth and Adult Literacy". Leaders of States will be reminded of their responsibility to provide literacy to every citizen.
It has been revealed that about 75 million children and 774 million adults the world over do not have the ability to read and write. It is crucial to take remedial action to reach the goal of "Education for All" by the year 2015 |
